This scarce publication is utterly fascinating. Originally published weekly, the newspaper is crammed full of black and white photographs and illustrations as well as contemporary advertisements. Contains domestic and foreign news on current affairs, technology, the arts, royalty and much more.

This particular volume covers the winter weather and sports, Austrian mountain railway building, the assasination of the King and Crown Prince of Portugal, railway and motor car developments, the new Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. H. H. Asquith) and so much more.

272 + pages.

Condition:  Reasonable considering age and size! Hardcovers have a fair bit of wear/fading and shelf wear. Spine is cracked and badly split to both hinges. Internal pages are very good with just some minor marking. Appears to be missing the first pages including the index but all numbered page present. Binding of the main block remains quite tight.

This particular volume covers the great blizzard in the UK, the then current channel tunnel scheme, the great earthquake in Jamaica, the death of Captain Hanry Pennell, Chinese famine and so much more.

Spine is cracked and split to both hinges and front cover is literally hanging on by a thread. Internal pages are very good with just some minor marking. This particular volume dedicates a lot of space to the Russo-Japanese war but also contains coverage of the revolutionary movement in Russia, a journey to Tibet, the development of the motor car, the construction of the Simplon rail tunnel and so much more.

This particular volume appears to have the first issue missing along with the index and introductory pages. Starts at page 27, issue dated January 7th, 1905. The internal pages are generally very good however, the first 114 pages have been affected by damp to the outside edge at some time and have had an amateur tape repair that has reinforced the page edges. Slight encroachment onto the text of a few pages but, not many. Binding of the main block remains quite tight.

Softcover First Edition in printed covers, published by The Illustrated London News, London in 1937.  Dimensions: 37cm x 26cm approx. 

The classic photographic current affairs publication containing numerous photographs and featuring:

The Coronation of His Majesty King George VI (May 12th, 1937). The whole of this issue is devoted to the Coronation and the events surrounding it. As usual the magazine includes numerous contemporary advertisements - Good Year, Haig, Humber, Elizabeth Arden, Caron, Greys Cigarettes are amongst the companies advertising. Ironically, the issue also carries an advertisment from the German Railways Information Bureau promoting the benefits of a holiday !!

c.80 pages.

Condition:  Good for its age. Covers have some wear/rubbing/marking and a few very small tears. Internal pages have slight wear/creasing and a few minor marks. Binding tight.

28 Volumes of "THE WEST COUNTRY MAGAZINE"  Summer 1946 to Autumn 1952.

28 x Softcover First Editions in printed covers, published by the Westaway Press, Ltd, London.  The magazines were edited by Malcolm Elwin initially and subsequently by J. C. Trewin.  Dimensions: 21.5cm x 14.5cm approx.  Ex-Libris copies from Exeter City Library.

These are extremely interesting and quite scarce publications.  There was an earlier magazine of the same name but, this was not related to these magazines.  The magazines contain a range of prose and poetry on West Country subjects by some very well known litereary names including Henry Williamson, T. F. Powys, Llewelyn Powys, Angela du Maurier, Geoffrey Grigson, Ronald Duncan, Valentine Ackland, Joseph Braddock, Sean O'Casey, Eden Philpotts, John Betjeman, V. Sackville-West, A. K. Chesterton, Edith Shackleton, Victor Bonham-Carter and numerous others.

The later volumes contain a number of black and white photographs (normally 2-4 photos per issue) and a all contain local advertisements as well.
